Celia is a 21-footer built in 1894 as Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. hull #447. It measures 310 x 210 x 63 x 55 and is one of Herreshoffs many fin-keelers of that era. There were four boats of the same model built earlier that same year: Houri, Adelaide, Vaquero, and Dorothy. Celia was built for C. A. Gould who still owned it in 1905. (Although the August 1896 issue of Outing magazine notes that Celia was owned by "W. F. Gould.") The Newport 30s may have had hulls of varnished mahogany, stained dark, topped by varnished oak sheer strakes, even though from the photos one might think they were painted black. <Thanks to Maynard Bray..>
