The Clara photographed above was probably the vessel imported from England in 1885 which, according to The History of American Sailing Ships by Howard Chapelle, was very successful in the American races. According to The Pictorial History of the America's Cup Races by Robert W. Carrick: Clara was a "trophy-winning cutter well-known in American waters." Clara was designed by William Fife, Jr. who also designed Shamrock & Minerva.
Note that there were at least two other yachts named Clara during this period - a cat-yawl built in 1887 by Herreshoff and owned by Charles Sweet; and a 20' catboat yawl built in 1884 by C&R Poillon in Brooklyn, NY.
