The 1897-98 Record of American and Foreign Shipping notes that the Corsair, a 204' steel steam yacht owned by J. P. Morgan, was built in Philadelphia, PA in April 1891. It was purchased on April 23, 1898 by the U.S. Government and renamed the U.S.S. Gloucester for service in the Spanish-American War.
