According to http://www.mitchelllibrary.org, Sir Thomas Lipton (of Lipton Tea Fame) purchased the Clyde-built 1,240 ton steam yacht, Aegusa, in 1898, which he renamed the Erin. Lipton entertained lavishly on the Erin. Lipton also owned Shamrock I.
