Esperanza was designed and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. It was a 30' sloop and built in 1886. According to the August 1896 issue of Outing magazine, Esperanza was owned by A. S. Van Winkle. A yacht named "Esperanza" owned by A. S. Van Winkle was mentioned in the September 1887 edition of Outing magazine as well.Esperanza was one of the Newport Thirties designed by Capt. Nat Herreshoff in 1896. Its professional captain was Capt. Holmes.
