According to http://www.by-the-sea.com, Gorilla was a 54' sloop designed by A. Cary Smith and built by C & R Poillon in 1889 for owner Royal Phelps Carroll. According to the May 1892 issue of Outing magazine, Gorilla was owned by Mr. William Kent.
