

According to Howard Chapelle in his book The History of American Sailing Ships, Grayling was a centerboard schooner designed by Phil Ellsworth.According to www.by-the-sea.com, Grayling was built in 1883 by C&R Poillon in Brooklyn, NY. Its owver was Latham Fish, Commodore of the Atlantic Yacht Club. It measured 91 x 23 feet. They note it had a "long racing career."
According to the November 1886 issue of Outing magazine, Grayling was built by C & R Poillon of Brooklyn for Latham A. Fish of the Atlantic Yacht Club. It was designed by Mr. Philip Ellsworth.
According to the Dec. 30, 1899 issue of Forest and Stream magazine, "Grayling, schr., L. A. Fish, has at last been sold to be broken up, after being used for several as a houseboat at Greenport."
