According to the November 1888 issue of Outing magazine, Huron was a 3rd Class Sloop owned by E. S. Hatch.

The 1896 List of Merchant Sailing Vessels of the United States lists the 62.5' sloop Huron as built 1883 in Boston, Mass. with a homeport in New York City.

The 1906 Lloyd's Register lists a 71'6" wooden yawl named Huron designed by William Gray Jr. and built in 1883 in South Boston, Mass. by W. B. Smith. It was altered from a cutter in 1896. Its owner in 1906 was listed as H. B. Gilpin of Baltimore, MD.
