The Aug. 1894 issue of Outing magazine makes reference to Herreshoff's "fast steam yacht Javelin, which easily logs twenty miles an hour."The book Capt. Nat Herreshoff: The Wizard of Bristol notes that Herreshoff built the steam launch Javelin in 1890-91 for Edwin D. Morgan. Javelin "was a remarkable open launch ninety-eight feet long, double-ended, planked with mahogany. I think she went around twenty-six miles per hour and was one of the fastest open launches of her time."
