According to the December 1896 issue of Outing, Lasca was built by Henry Piepgras at City Island in 1892 from the plans of A. Cary Smith.

Tom Nye writes us: "Lasca was a steel c.b., keel spoonbow schooner designed by A. Carey Smith and built by Henry Piepgras at City Island for John Brooks of New York, a commodore of the N.Y.Y.C. L.O.A.: 119' x L.W.L.: 89'10" x Beam: 23'0" x Draft: 10'3" Year built: 1892. Lasca proved to be a great racer and cruiser. After a cruise to Europe the yacht was sold to a German yachtsman, spent several years racing and cruising on both the North Sea and Med. before being sold back to an American in the early 1900s. After another decade as a yacht and like so many other notable yachts of the time, Lasca was sold again into commercial use, being used as a lumber and freight schooner out of Canada. Henry Piepgras at City Island also built the 131' Constellation of Burgess design in 1889, as well as the notable 70' class yacht Titania, and Katrina of Burgess and A.Carey Smith designs, respectively."
