Marietta (Judge)

8. Marietta

123a. Marietta (Judge)

An identical photo of this vessel also appears with Johnston's title "Judge."

The July 1899 issue of Outing magazine notes that steam yacht Marietta was owned by Harrison B. Moore.

According to another source "...The Marietta, a steam yacht, [was chartered] by the state women's federation in 1897. Back then, more than 40 women from around the state boarded the vessel to see firsthand the destruction of the Palisades. Quarry companies were blasting the cliffs for gravel needed to build roads and for stone to construct buildings across the river in an expanding New York City." (Apparently these women protested the destruction of the Palisades.)

Marietta was renamed Judge. It was designed by Henry J. Gielow and built in 1893 in Wilmington, Delaware.
