Narwhal

173. Narwhal

Photo date: Aug. 4, 1895.

The 1899 Record of American and Foreign Shipping lists a likely candidate for this vessel: Narwhal, a 120' wooden-hulled steam yacht, built in1887 in Noank,
CT. Its owner in 1899 was listed as Chas. H. Osborne and its homeport as New London. (Who was Charles H. Osborne of New London?)

(Note: There was also a 138.8' steel-hulled steam yacht named "Narwahl" - formerly "Formosa" - hailing from Boston and owned by Chas. H. Osgood at
the same time. Can we rule this out? Can you tell from the photograph with certainty whether this hull is wooden or steel?)
