According to the article "The House of Wood" by Tom Nye featured in the Summer 2006 issue of Restoration Quarterly magazine, Pyxie was built by Benjamin Franklin “B.F.” Wood from the designs of William Gardner at the Wood Yacht Yard at City Island, NY.

Tom Nye adds:
