According to the November 1888 issue of Outing magazine, Sachem was owned by Messrs. C. D. Owen & Jesse Metcalf of Providence, RI. According to the August 1897 Outing, Sachem was owned by Vice-Commodore (later Commodore) of the Atlantic Yacht Club, Frederick T. Adams. It was designed by Edward Burgess, and won the Goelet Cup in 1887-88.One reader writes, " The Sachem you have - I believe - was owned by F.T. Adams. He was one of the founders of the Atlantic Yacht Club as well as a member of Indian Harbor."
