The steam yacht Sylvia was taken on an ocean voyage in 1894-95 by Captain Arthur H. Clark. Sylvia was owned by Commodore Edward M. Brown of the New York Yacht Club. Sylvia was the flagship of the N.Y.Y.C. and carried the regatta committee for the first trial race between Defender and Vigilant on the day photograph #33 was taken. Clark wrote a history of yachting a few years later.
