The Sirene was a 25' sloop upon which the Indian Harbor Yacht Club was founded in 1889.
According to http://www.indianharboryc.com/clubhistory.htm:
"...Three local sailors decided aboard their 25-foot sloop Sirene, to form a racing yacht club. They were Henry E. Doremus, E S. Doremus, and Richard Outwater. On July 1st, 1889, a number of their sailor friends convened and subscribed funds to hold an organized regatta. As yet there were no officers and no dues. The number of members soon outgrew the capacity of the little Sirene so their first meetings were held in a freight loft on the Steamboat Road pier to the west of the Americus Club. The adjacent building had now become part of an infamous six-story building called Indian Harbor House at the entrance to the estuary. It was built around 1870. It was said at the time that a scheduled paddle wheel steamer arrived daily from New York with partyers and fancy ladies."
One reader adds: "[Sirene] is credited as being the first flagship of IHYC and being owned by Comm. Henry Doremus. However, I technically disagree as his brother (Frederic, I think) and Richard Outwater actually co-owned her as per the 1893 membership book. Henry owned Wahneta."
