Tidal Wave, a shallow centerboard schooner, was one of the defenders of the 1st America's Cup in 1870. It was designed by Abraham A. Schank.
The 1891 American Yacht List recorded a 119.3' schooner Tidal Wave designed by W. Voorhis and built by James E. Smith in 1870 in Nyack, NY and owned in 1891 by A. L. Ranney, M.D. of New York. It also notes, "'73 new stern and '74 new bow and length'd forward by Smith of Nyack. '78 new timbers, deck, planksheer, etc. by Mumm."
Are these vessels one and the same? And are they the same as the vessel photographed above?
