The 1891 American Yacht List recorded a 177' iron 3-masted steam schooner named Tillie (formerly Polynia) that had been lengthened by 22 feet in 1886. It was designed and built by Ward, Stanton & Co. of Newburgh NY in 1880. It was owned by W. H. Starbuck of New York.
The 1896 List of Merchant Steam Vessels of the United States lists the same vessel at 164.9' with a homeport of New York City.
According to the June 1896 issue of Outing magazine, William H. Starbuck was still the owner of the steam yacht Tillie. Starbuck was a Commodore of the American Yacht Club and was a principal in the shipping firm of Tappen & Starbuck.
By 1906, Tillie was in the possession of F. L. Osgood of New London, CT.
